School Consultation
School consultation services may be sought by educators to support children who may be experiencing behavioral, emotional or social difficulties at school. For the classroom, we recognize that teachers are part of one of the most important triads (Parent-Teacher-Child) that exists. Our treatment approach focuses on designing positive behavioral supports that can be implemented easily in the classroom setting. Our approach focuses on helping teachers to be skilled observers of behaviors that may interfere with a child’s ability to engage in socially appropriate interactions or may interfere with their ability as a learner. Our focus on gaining an understanding on what may be happening across all school environments is key to designing the most effective strategy or intervention to prevent or decrease problem behaviors that interfere with learning or interacting socially with peers in the school setting. As a Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst for the State of Massachusetts (LABA), Lonnie R. Ouellette can conduct student observations or more formal evaluations such as Program Evaluations or Functional Behavioral Assessments (school/home settings) when warranted. Evaluation reports with recommendations presented to the IEP/504 Team to assist staff to develop accommodations, teaching methodologies, goals, benchmarks and recommendations for service delivery will be presented following state mandated time lines and procedures. Behavior Intervention Plan development is also available as an outcome of the evaluation process. Additionally, our team is available to conduct informal school observations, data collection and on-site social coaching. Site-based social skills program development and consultation can also be provided. Consultation and on-site staff training can be scheduled on a case by case basis or for short term regularly scheduled visits as an independent contractor/vendor. School consultation allows for case collaboration and an outside or objective perspective to assist teachers in proactive and preventative classroom management strategies and/or to target individual students utilizing positive behavioral/therapeutic supports and reinforcement contingencies. Consultation schedules can be requested to align with teacher or service provider prep periods, staff meetings, IEP meetings, etc.. Student observations are scheduled based on when the student presents with increased difficulties that may interfere with their learning or when the student’s behavior disrupts the learning of others.
